Djokovic Downs Alcaraz in French Open Semifinals

Top Seed Struck by Cramps as Serbian Advances

Paris, France - June 3, 2023

In a thrilling match marred by cramping, Novak Djokovic has emerged victorious over top seed Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open semifinals. Djokovic will now face Stefanos Tsitsipas in Sunday's final, seeking his 21st Grand Slam title.

Alcaraz, the 19-year-old Spanish sensation, looked poised to win the first set, leading 5-3 with a break point. However, he was forced to take a medical timeout due to cramps in his right leg, which slowed him down considerably.

Djokovic capitalized on the situation, winning the first set 7-5 and taking the next two sets more comfortably, 6-2 and 6-1. Alcaraz fought valiantly but was unable to shake off the cramps, eventually succumbing in two hours and 48 minutes.

This victory marks Djokovic's third consecutive appearance in the French Open final and his 30th Grand Slam final overall. He will aim to secure his second Roland Garros title and move one step closer to equaling Rafael Nadal's record of 22 Grand Slams.
